PRESS RELEASE

London, 5 February 2007

ARISTA ANNOUNCES SOUTH OF ENGLAND TEAM

The commercial lines underwriting organisation Arista has launched its office in Southampton
with the appointment of an experienced team working under the direction of regional manager
Julian Holloway. The office will lead business opportunities in the south of England, working
alongside the Redhill office covering the south east, and Bristol covering the south west.

Julian Holloway is supported by broker development manager Janice Mullan, who has joined
from RSA, and three senior underwriters: Chris Brooks, formerly at AXA; Gary Chambers,
previously at Towergate; and Fiona Badley who specialises in fleet business and joins from
Allianz. Michelle Collins joins as fleet underwriter, and Sharron Keating and Claire Morris as
underwriters, all from AXA. Graham Pointer comes from Southampton broker A E Insurance,
also as underwriter.

More appointments will be announced in due course.

Julian said: “There is an impressive amount of experience among this team, and everyone
brings with them some excellent relationships which I know will go a long way to fulfilling Arista’s
promise of putting the broker first.”

Arista’s product range continues to be developed including the addition of motor trade, property
owners, contractors combined and licensed trade.

Existing property, liability and motor capacity is provided by Arista’s owners Canopius and
Equity Insurance Group. Engineering and commercial legal expenses capacity is provided by
HSB and ARAG. This provides Arista with strong and secure insurance backing to its service
proposition.

Arista CEO Charles Earle said: “We’re going from strength to strength with a strong and
experienced management team and a growing infrastructure that looks set to take the company
forward to its £250M goal. We now have an enviable amount of experience in our three regional
offices and a non-legacy constrained operating system. Arista is a business now – it’s no longer
a start up.

Arista, launched last year by Charles Earle and Deputy CEO Lyn Carslake, is focusing on
broker-administered commercial business in the UK and intends to arrange agencies with a
select panel of independent brokers throughout 2007. In the medium to long term the new
venture will have the capacity to write in excess of £250 million worth of business.
